The Balanced Accelerator Meta-type is the center point of the Accelerator family, with the Mixed Accelerator on the left and the Accelerator on the right (see the pH chart below). As the name implies, the Balanced Accelerator blends the highs and lows of the other two Accelerator within one distinct type. The Balanced Accelerator efficiently harnesses the Accelerator's logical, rational side with the Mixed Accelerator's creativeness to form your own wisdom.
As a Balanced Accelerator, you combine your wisdom with your dynamic drive, determination, and zest for life with an intense commitment to your goals. Your highly developed intuition and organizational skills give you an amazing ability to focus on and clarify any project you're involved with. Nor do you stop until the job gets done. Energetically, the Balanced Accelerator is extremely active. You have abundant levels of stored energy at your disposal, especially in the early morning. Your only needs to think of an idea and you're off and running. Food does not seem to be a priority to energize you.
The powerful phrase that best describes the Balanced Accelerator is: “I think, I intuit, and then I take decisive action!”

Rosemary, a devoted wife and mother, relished the challenges of raising three terrific daughters. She loved her city lifestyle and living in a stunning skyline apartment. But she also wanted to feel fulfilled professionally, to be her own person. She enthusiastically returned to school. To expand on her former career in nutritional service, she sought out many different subjects to deepen her knowledge of both the scientific and the humane sides of comprehensive health care. Over the years, she delved into naturopathic and chiropractic studies, psychology, counseling, and comparative religious studies. Her innate intuitive qualities helped her become a well-rounded, holistic resource for her clients. With her children grown, Rosemary began volunteering with a group of underserved inner city children. She also began seeing paying clients, including some of the country's most prominent (and demanding) personalities and celebrities. She often traveled with them to maintain a check on their hectic lifestyles and keep them in optimum health. A model multitasker, overachiever, and consummate comforter, Rosemary always moved quickly, making smart decisions on the run. She knew she could rely on her own inner power and physical and emotional strength. Rosemary always felt light and confident, and only occasionally suffered mild insomnia or some jet lag. She was very proud of how she could follow both the habits and needs of her clients and her family in great detail. Over the next six years, Rosemary barely noticed that changes were taking place. Lack of enthusiasm, fatigue, and irritability became a constant factor in her life and she couldn't control them. Mild weight gain crept onto her body, mostly around her stomach (the female version of "love handles") and upper thighs. She became annoyed with her "star" clients and impatient with the restless kids she tried tirelessly to inspire. Smiling was an effort. Working every minute on long plane rides and delegating by phone and email, Rosemary began sleeping wherever she could, yet never feeling rejuvenated. Not even spa outings comforted her. Her hectic lifestyle had finally taken its toll. Many factors were breaking down her body's resistance: the constant travel, the crackers and breads she was constantly eating, not enough water, lack of exercise, lack of fresh foods at either home or office because of the travel, and too many meals at corner diners and delis. Always on the run, Rosemary ignored the healthful recommendations she made to her own clients. Her usually excellent health began to wane, and her confidence and optimism soured. That's when Rosemary ended up in my office, referred to me by one of my own patients who worked in health care with her. Rosemary's depleted sense of self came from so much endless giving, her body and emotions taxed beyond their ability to spring back. She craved foods only available to her on the go, exactly the worst possible foods and circumstances for her metabolism, hair, complexion, strength, and body tone. Rosemary had never heard of my practice or the study of , although she was familiar with basic metabolic science. She had little experience with Eastern medicine, and to Rosemary, I was a last resort. Rosemary simply needed a comprehensive, swift change into the Balanced Accelerator regimen. She had to modify her lifestyle and honestly admit what she really wanted and could realistically achieve once she was back in balance. Once balanced, she was able to redefine her vision, both at home and professionally, empowered by vibrant health and feeling true to herself. |
As a Balanced Accelerator, you are ruled by your very clear, rational, and linear-thinking mind. In addition, your powerful intuition guides you into a deep interest in all things spiritual. You almost have easy access to your emotional life. That is, if your emotions don't get in the way of your dreams and goals, or if they're not too painful for you to handle. Dealing with upsetting emotions and memories is difficult for you. Stuffing down the hurt and pain, you often try to ignore the fact that they'll just resurface until they are dealt with.
You're usually a very happy person and you thrive on intensity. However, you don't like to be pressured and you'll react to extreme stress with anxiety. If you're under stress, extra pounds can begin to cling to your body due to your rising insulin levels stimulated by the Stress Response, easily triggering your food cravings. Those excess pounds will accumulate on the Balanced Accelerator´s stomach and hips, a smaller version of the "apple" shape. Although you tend to think of food as something functional, you love your desserts (especially as rewards). Your food cravings can range among sugar, starches (breads, crackers, etc.), and fats.
Your Balanced Accelerator Meta-type indicates that you are a fairly "fast metabolizer" (your digestive system breaks down your foods reasonably quickly) but you are a somewhat "slow oxidizer" (your body burns off your energy rather slowly). This gives your body a pH range near the acidic end of the acid/alkaline spectrum: "acid forming" (5).
| Strong Alkaline pH: 8 - 7.5 Synthesizer |
Alkaline Forming pH: 7.4 Balanced Synthesizer |
Weak Alkaline pH: 6.8 Mixed Synthesizer |
Weak Acid pH: 6.2 Mixed Accelerator |
Acid Forming pH: 5 Balanced Accelerator |
Strong Acid pH: 4.5 - 4 Accelerator |
The Balanced Accelerator metabolism enables you to handle the faster-burning carbohydrates (because you'll burn these off slowly), but you can handle some proteins such as fish, some fowl, and eggs. It's best if you follow a more semi-vegetarian food plan; since meat does not break down quickly in your body, it can make you feel very sluggish.
Early morning (6:00-7:00 AM), morning, and early afternoon are your best energy times. You tend to feel a late afternoon slump when your adrenalin levels start declining. Breakfast for the Balanced Accelerator can be coffee or tea, maybe some toast, or maybe nothing at all. You generally fall asleep easily and sleep well through the night. If you're under stress or anxious, you may wake up frequently or even develop insomnia.

Frank was at the height of his career, managing two businesses. He owned one and held an important position in the other, a well-known organization in the food services industry. Being responsible for the company's entire building complex, he managed over 160 employees, created many of the menus himself, supervised the ordering of the food, and oversaw meal preparation. With an intense interest in health, business, and self-help groups, Frank spent many evenings at a variety of meetings. There, he counseled and mentored individuals or helped plan the meetings so that they provided the best venue for the development and awareness of those present. Frank never stopped his grueling pace, and everyone was always clamoring for "Frank!" He generously shared his own brand of help, integrating information he'd learned over the years from health and nutrition tips, to 12-Step programs, to psychology, the Landmark Forum, and just plain life! A true go-getter - focused, avidly task-oriented, with a passionate desire to help - Frank was also intuitively gifted. He could rely on his ability to move quickly and make fast decisions on the spot. He also knew he could trust himself to remember all the minute details involved in running the huge organization, as well as his own business and his extracurricular meetings, with some quality time left over for a personal life. As the large organization grew, Frank took on more responsibility. His groups doubled and tripled in size, and he had a hard time saying no. His own business began flourishing as well, so the only "give" in his 24-hour schedule was his personal life, which fell by the wayside. Unable to stay within his own healthy regimen, he started either grabbing whatever food was around or forgetting to eat at all. His sleep became restless and "happy go lucky" Frank became grim. He overheard himself being called "Frank, the Grouch," his bright and shining smile eclipsed by his dark moods. Under constant stress, his employees and the people in his groups all became great annoyances to him. He started craving sugars and couldn't keep his hands off of cakes, cookies and, especially, alcohol. Before this, Frank just didn't get sick. Now, he was constantly bombarded with colds and plagued by horrific allergies. Excess weight started creeping around his stomach and hips, giving him bulging "love handles." He had constant headaches and his self-esteem and confidence plummeted. Frank started missing his nightly meetings because of his exhaustion. The more he slept, the worse he felt. Sick days accumulated at work as his allergies escalated into asthma. He was battling constant low blood sugar attacks, terrible fatigue, and extreme levels of anxiety. It all came crashing down on Frank one winter's evening when he ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. Just days after he was released from the hospital, Frank was brought into my office by a client of mine, one of his best friends. Still exceptionally weak with a wretched, hacking cough, Frank was finally ready to stop and take care of himself. To bring about a swift change in lifestyle and food, I put Frank into the Balanced Accelerator program. He quickly learned to say "no" to requests that would overextend him. He began balancing all aspects of his life by understanding what he could realistically achieve without burning out. Six months later, Frank was back to a better self, full of confidence and self-esteem, his big smile shining and bounding with vibrant new health. He even had enough time for a new relationship to blossom. He was learning to be the best he could be, but in balance! |
The Balanced Accelerator´s strongest endocrine gland is the thymus gland. As the "master" of your immune system, it grants you remarkable health; you never seem to get sick. Your least effective endocrine gland tends to be your pancreas, which rules digestion and blood sugar stability. Those areas could be problems for you if your metabolism goes out of balance.
Balanced Accelerators really dislike repetitive exercise and easily get bored. You need something that keeps your mind active and entertained, such as aerobic dance or Jazzercize™*. You love hot, tropical climates and could be known as the prototypical "sun baby."
When you think of the Balanced Accelerator Meta-type, think of the quintessential organizer-everyone's "go-to" person. You are meticulously organized, in charge of and on top of things, creatively gifted and intuitive. You are also warm and sincere, able to empathize and truly understand other people's problems. Some words that best describe the Balanced Accelerator are:
As a Balanced Accelerator, you have the drive and determination of the Accelerator, coupled with the emotional creativity of the Mixed Accelerator and your own special brand of intuitive power. You must stay centered and balanced between these two polarities. If the intensity of the Accelerator´s energy takes over, you'll skyrocket into the Accelerator Meta-type. You then may experience anxiety attacks, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and potential heart and stroke problems. If your less effective endocrine gland, the pancreas, further weakens, you could suffer from digestive shutdown, constipation, low-blood sugar attacks, and sugar cravings that could lead to diabetes. The Accelerator's intensity on a long-term basis can easily deplete your adrenal glands from overwork. Then you'll crash into the below you, the Mixed Accelerator. Here, you may experience weight gain due to a lower thyroid function, accompanied by tiredness, fatigue, and lethargy.
The Stress Response can also cause the Balanced Accelerator to "swing" out of your own and into another one. Anxiety can catapult you into the Accelerator Meta-type, just to the "right" of your Balanced Accelerator Meta-type (see the chart above). Conversely, if you're exhausted and burned out, you could plummet into the just to your "left," the Mixed Accelerator. If you think you've swung out of your , read about the "Pendulum Effect".
Learning about your Balanced Accelerator Meta-type will teach you what your body truly needs in terms of food, exercise, and lifestyle to sustain your pace and be true to yourself. And you'll find that all your health issues deal not only with your body but also with your mind, emotions, intellect, heart, and spirit. Staying in balance within your Balanced Accelerator Meta-type will help you live a long, healthy, and fulfilling life in which you make use of the skills and talents that are uniquely you.
